Live a Healthy Life. Drink Water!

What can you not live without? Family, friends, sushi, chocolate…those are all viable options, but did you consider water? Probably not but it is absolutely essential not only to stay alive but also to live a healthy life.

It’s a well-known fact that our bodies are made up of about 60% of water. We quite literally need it to function! So let’s make sure with the on-coming heat that we drink water to keep our bodies adequately hydrated.

Challenge #1: This summer challenge yourself to drink at least 2 liters of water every day (the recommended daily amount!)

"Water is the driving force of all nature.” – Leonardo da Vinci

How do our Bodies Utilize Water?

  • Your blood delivers nutrients throughout your entire body and is 82% water

  • The muscles that move your body are 75% water

  • Even your bones are made of 25% water

  • Your lungs that pump oxygen are 83% water

  • The skin contains 64% water

  • Even your brain is composed of 73% water

Drinking so much water might have you going to the bathroom more, and that’s okay!

Place firm pressure for 1-3 minutes on the outside of your ankle right between your anklebone and Achilles tendon to help invigorate the blood. This point also helps you pass gas.

A Natural Remedy Many ailments confused for the cold or flu actually stem from dehydration. Our bodies require water to transport nutrients to our cells. When water is lacking, this process is slowed or ceases to happen. Lack of proper hydration can cause headaches, lethargy, and even gastrointestinal issues like cramps, constipation and diarrhea. Energy: Feeling low on energy? Being dehydrated sucks up all your energy and makes you tired, even if you’re only mildly dehydrated. If you get thirsty, that means you are already dehydrated and your kidneys have helped send a message telling you to drink up. Drink a glass of water soon to prevent or ease dizziness, fatigue and muscle weakness. Headaches: If you feel a headache coming on or are in the midst of one, dehydration is a common cause. Of course there are other reasons you might have one, but it definitely doesn’t hurt to drink some water! Healthy Skin: Challenge #2 - Commit to drinking a healthy amount of water and keep track of the effects on your skin. Drinking water will help clear up your skin and help you look fresh! Taking water into your body keeps your skin hydrated. Digestive Issues: Digestion systems need a good amount of water to digest food properly. Water can help with stomach acid problems and constipation. Your body also uses water to help flush out toxins and waste products from the body. Drink more water to help your kidneys do their job! Weight Loss: Water is actually one of the best tools for weight loss! It is a great appetite suppressor with no calories, fats, sugar or carbs. When replaced with high-calorie drinks, you could see a bigger difference than suspected. Being hydrated also helps your workouts, as being dehydrated makes you move slower. The best time to drink water is two hours before your plan to exercise, along with during and after.
